Handy tips for a Male Candidate


Though we may believe that no one should be judge by what they wear, the reality is that employers are influenced by a personā€˜s grooming. They are not only concerned about your resume and interview, they are also concerned about the image you project and often make a judgment on appearance within the first five minutes of meeting the candidate. Here are some of the handy tips for grooming.
Clothes should be well fitting, spotless and well ironed. Always dress for the position.
It is strictly advised to male candidates to avoid jeans and sneakers.
Suits for a business professional in a conservative environment with dark suit in solid, pinstripe, or subtle plaid.
Blazer for a formal business casual environment co-ordinate sport coat or blazer with chinos or trousers.
Shirts must be crisp and clean, with long sleeved in pastel colour such as white, cream, light blue are preferred.
Avoid shirts with designs as far as possible. Pin-striped shirts are acceptable provided tie is plain.
Necktie with medium width silk ties in solids, stripes, and small patterns. Tip of the tie should touch the top of the belt. The upper and lower parts of the tie must be aligned perfectly. It should co-ordinate with the pant.
You can wear leather belts in black, burgundy, or dark brown to match trousers and shoes.
Trim styled watch with leather or good quality metal band is appropriate for an interview. Studies show that a metal watch shows strength and power to a business image.
Have your hair cut close.
Nails must be well manicured and quite clean.
A close shave is necessary. Stubble of a beard or untrimmed mustache look uncomely.
Socks must be dark colour or neutral over the calf socks co-ordinate to the trousers. White sport socks and athletic shoes are out of place even in a casual business environment.
Shoes should be polished and conservative in style. Shoes do reveal your personality!
Shoes may dressy slip on and lace up shoes in black, burgundy, or dark brown.
Bad breath could be nauseating. Take necessary steps to overcome it before the interview.
Cover up tattoos if any.
Avoid flashy cufflinks, rings, or neck chains. If you wear an earring or any such, remove it before the interview.
Avoid fancy, fashionable and expensive mobile.
Take precaution against body odor.
Avoid gum, candy, or cigarette.
